Put Statham in any situation in which he can kick ass, and it should work. According to Variety, he’s set to star in Blitz, a London-set thriller about a serial killer targeting police officers. He’ll play a “tough, uncompromising cop” (for Statham, are there any other kind?) assigned to the case, while Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum) plays his partner. OK, so I admit I have a little crush on Statham – and any chance to see him in an action flick, I’m totally there.
In other casting news: Natalie Portman is everywhere lately. First, she’s playing a warrior princess, who falls for Danny McBride in the comedy Your Highness. And now she’s been tagged to play Thor’s girlfriend in the comic-book adaptation, directed by Kenneth Branagh. She’s been cast as Jane Foster, who was a nurse and first love of the Norse warrior banished to Earth to live among the mortals. Newcomer Chris Hemsworth has already been cast as Thor. The movie is due in theaters May 20, 2011. Can’t think about that now; it’s too far off.
It’s been 15 years since Maverick, but Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster are getting back in the ring together. They are starring in The Beaver, E! Online reports. No, it’s not THAT Beaver, but rather an offbeat dramedy about a man down on his luck who escapes from reality by wearing a beaver puppet on his hand. Foster plays the man’s wife AND is set to direct, her first since the 1995’s Home for the Holidays. Oh, this I’ve got to see.
Russell Crowe as Robin Hood? OK, I guess I can see some symmetry to that, especially if it’s being directed by Crowe’s Gladiator bud, Ridley Scott. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Danny Huston (X-Men Origin: Wolverine) also stars as King Richard I, who became known as Richard the Lionheart because of his exploits in the Third Crusade. Also cast is Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. So this will officially erase all memory of the horrible Kevin Costner disaster Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, correct?
