You make my heart sing, you make evvvverything groovy … Indeed, Where the Wild Things Are is groovin’ to the tune of $32.4 million, its opening weekend take at the box office.
Here is the top five this weekend:
1. NEW! Where the Wild Things Are (Warner Bros.) – $32.4 mil; 3,735 theaters; $8,693 PT
2. NEW! Law Abiding Citizen (Overture) – $21.2 mil; 2,890 theaters; $7,353 PT
3. Paranormal Activity (Paramount) – $20.1 mil; 760 theaters; $26,530 PT; $33.7 mil cume

Other newcomers Law Abiding Citizen and The Stepfather did well, debuting in second and fifth place, respectively, while Paranormal Activity continues its climb up the box office ladder, earning a whooping $33.7 million so far. Considering it was made for $11,000, tripling its money ain’t half bad.
This coming weekend has another mix of things. There’s the redo of the Japanese animated icon Astro Boy; the Oscar-baiter Amelia, starring Hilary Swank as Amelia Earhart; the fantastical Cirque du Freak: A Vampire’s Assistant about a teen who joins a circus of freaks; and finally, Saw VI. Can you believe there’s been six of these movies already? I’m pretty sure it will win the box office, but my picks would either be Amelia or Cirque du Freak. Here’s the trailer to the latter:
