Before Roman Polanski was put on house arrest in Switzerland, he was finishing up his latest flick The Ghost Writer, starring Ewan MacGregor and Pierce Brosnan. It’s about a writer who helps a former Prime Minister finish his memoirs and ends up uncovering some nasty secrets that puts his life in danger. Here’s the movie’s poster:
Sounds somewhat intriguing, but what makes it more so is that it’s from Polanski. He’s the draw, for me anyway.
First, hire a new director. Just to reiterate: Director Sam Raimi and Spidey star Tobey Maguire are NOT, I repeat, NOT going to do another Spider-Man movie. That’s it. They are kaput. So, Sony has decided to reboot the franchise, put Peter Parker back in high school – and hire Marc Webb, whose work includes the critically acclaimed hit romance (500) Days of Summer, to helm the proceedings. OK, not a bad start, but the real buzz will begin when they start casting. Will they go with unknowns to play Peter, Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn? And will they resemble Maguire, Kristen Dunst and James Franco at all? Inquiring minds want to know.
In other movie news: Now that Robert Downey Jr. has his Golden Globe as Sherlock Holmes and a sequel is well on its way, the actor had to drop out of the weirdly intriguing Cowboys & Aliens, directed by Jon Favreau. Don’t worry, though – Daniel Craig may stepped up to the plate to take over, since the next James Bond flick isn’t going to start for awhile, according to Collider.com. As you may recall, the story is about Apache Indians and Western settlers who are forced to work together when an alien spaceship crash lands in their town. I could see Craig in chaps and a six-shooter.

You remember Tron? The Disney film about a computer geek (Jeff Bridges) who gets zapped into his own computer matrix and befriends the good programs to fight against the bad ones, and which in 1982, was sort of mind blowing with its special effects? Looks like it’s been updated for the 21st century, all right. But you gotta wait until December next year for the movie.
I posted an image from the new Nightmare on Elm Street redo awhile back, but it was pretty grainy and hard to see. Here’s a slightly better one, just released:
Never been a fan of the original movies, but I have to say this one intrigues me. I think it’s because the new Freddy Krueger is being played by Jackie Earle Haley.
It’s just one of those days … here’s a first-look image from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I, which comes out next November:
“Here they come, walking down the street, get the funniest looks from, everyone they meet!” Gone are the Hogwarts robes. Harry, Ron and Hermione are going AWOL in the Deathly Hallows movies, skipping out on their last year at Hogwarts to search for and destroy all of Lord Voldemort’s Horocruxes, thus killing the evil He Who Should Not Be Named once and for all. Oh, it’s going to be a hard year for these three.

Director Jon Favreau used his Twitter account yesterday to spring the news the poster could be seen on Yahoo! Movies. Looks very sleek and Iron Man 2-ish. I wonder how many ga-gillions this one is going to make when it comes out next summer?
