How DreamWorks Likes to Animate

shrekbabiesPretty aggressively. The DW animators are working on eight films over the next couple of years, all in 3-D. To be honest, I’m getting a little tired of 3-D glasses since I already have to wear glasses to watch a movie, and the two together bothers my ears. Can’t they just come up with technology that has it built in? But I digress … here’s six on the DWA slate, courtesy of Cinematical:

How to Train Your Dragon (March 26, 2010) — Based on the kids’ book by British author Cressida Cowell, the comedy centers on a budding Viking named Hiccup (voiced by Tropic Thunder’s Jay Baruchel), who has to train a young, toothless dragon in order to become a man. It also features Jonah Hill and America Ferrera. If Pixar was doing this, I might have a better feeling about it.

Shrek Forever After (May 21, 2010) – Well, of COURSE there’s going to be another Shrek. Are you drunk? This time Shrek tangles with Rumpelstiltskin (voiced by Paul McCartney. I know, I was a little shocked when I read his name as well.), who tricks the big Green One into believing his universe has changed in which the Rumpel man is king, Shrek has never met Fiona and gasp! Ogres are hunted down. I suppose this could just go on forever.

Oobermind (November 5, 2010) – Sounding a lot like Pixar’s The Incredibles, Robert Downey, Jr. gives voice to a supervillain with nothing else to do after accidentally killing his arch-nemesis, the superhero Metro Man. Tina Fey and Ben Stiller are also on board. Potentially promising.

kung_fu_panda_movie_imageKung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom (June 3, 2011) — More sequel fun, with Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman both saying they’ll be back. There’s also an as-yet-untitled Madagascar tri-quel set for release on May 25, 2012. I’d say two was enough.

The Guardians (November 4, 2011) – From the creator of Roly Poly Ollie and Meet the Robinsons, William Joyce, Guardians is described as “a contemporary fairytale based on existing fairytale characters.” Um, Shrek anyone?

Puss In Boots (March 30, 2012) – Speaking of more Shrek, we have been hearing about this spin-off for awhile. Antonio Banderas will once again voice the swashbuckling, doe-eyed cat, and apparently, Salma Hayek will voice Puss’ love interest. Man, remember how hot she and Banderas were in Desperado? I guess we probably won’t be seeing any hot feline action.
