How to Cast a Six-Foot Invisible Rabbit

harveyGet Steven Spielberg to do it.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, the director is setting his sights on a contemporary adaptation of Mary Chase’s play Harvey, about Elwood P. Dowd and his friendship with a rather tall imaginary rabbit. Now while it might be sacrilegious to mess with a classic like Harvey, I feel somewhat at ease with Spielberg doing it.

But who to play Elwood? As one of the most sincere, kindest, thoughtful – and perhaps the happiest – drunks to ever grace the big screen, I can’t imagine anyone else playing him besides James Stewart, who brought Elwood to life in the 1950 film version. But if I did have to think about an actor to play Elwood, one comes to mind: Jason Segel. The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor has that certain sweetness to him and is definitely tall enough. Think about it, Steven!
