Put him in a musical, for chrissakes! After hosting the Oscars and Tonys, you can just tell he’s itching to do it on the big screen. Variety reports he’ll star as the iconic P.T. Barnum in a movie called The Greatest Show on Earth, an original musical. This is not to be confused with the 1952 Cecil B. DeMille’s Best Picture winner of the same name starring Betty Hutton and Charlton Heston, which is also loosely based on Barnum’s life, with the names changed. Also possibly on board is Anne Hathaway as Barnum’s lifelong obsession Jenny Lind, but that hasn’t been confirmed. The casting obviously comes from Jackman and Hathaway little duet during the Academy Awards show. Must have made quite an impression.
In other casting news: Charlize Theron and Terminator: Salvation‘s Sam Worthington are looking at starring together in a remake of the 2005 French spy thriller The Tourist. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film revolves around an American tourist who gets mixed up with a female Interpol agent in Europe. Tom Cruise was originally interested in playing the tourist, but the role is now Worthington. He’s a busy Aussie these days. He’s got James Cameron’s Avatar, a Clash of the Titans remake and now this. Must feel nice to be in demand.
