Definitely cast Cage as a villain in a movie that doesn’t rest entirely on his shoulders. The actor is in talks to star as the gangster bad guy in The Green Hornet, according to Variety, and it would be a smart move on Cage’s part to take it. Because let’s face it, the guy’s starring vehicles of late haven’t been very good, and this is something he can do to redeem himself a little. Then again, Cage is also doing a remake of Bad Lieutenant – so chances may be slim.
The Michel Gondry-directed Hornet stars Seth Rogen, who wrote the screenplay with partner Evan Goldberg – and even though they are looking for a new Kato since Stephen Chow dropped out last week, production is to start this fall. Cameron Diaz is also in talks to star as The Green Hornet’s love interest. I guess she has a thing for guys in green.
In other movie news: Cool, more Twilight Zone! Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company has hired Rand Ravich to pen a script on the iconic TV series, Variety reports, in hopes to improve on the John Landis/Steven Spielberg attempt in 1983, is my guess. Ravich is best known for creating the excellent NBC TV series Life, which just got canceled. Hence the reason he is available at the moment.
Jennifer Aniston is putting on her producing hat as well. She’s setting her sights on the film Holler, a story about lingering racial tension in Mississippi, based on true events. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it is about a biracial boy who moves back to the state with his white mother, falls for a white girl but can’t attend the prom with her because he’s black. He then becomes a catalyst for change. Of course he does.
Uma Thurman trades her Kill Bill swords for a nun’s habit to kick ass once again. After playing the hair-challenged Medusa in the upcoming comedy Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Thurman will move onto to playing said nun in the drama Girl Soldier. Also based on real events, the film focuses on the 1996 raid of a boarding school in Uganda, where several girls were abducted and turned into soldiers and sex slaves. Thurman plays Sister Caroline who was instrumental in rescuing many of the girls. Way to use that bible, Uma!
