Poor Disney. In a recent L.A. Times article, the studio apparently had a very badĀ day, reporting major drops in profits. The head MouseĀ Robert Iger blames their movie production slate. Films such as Confessions of a Shopaholic and the Jonas Brothers Concert Movie fell way below expectations. It happens.
Do we really care? Probably not. That business seems to ebb and flow, anyway. But I’d feel remiss if I didn’t offer the teeniest bit of advice to the Disney folks: never, EVER let go of Pixar, the animated geniuses over there who continually pump out quality, money-making movies. Seriously, if Disney lost Pixar (which they almost did a few years ago) all would be lost for the Mouseketeers.
Up is their latest venture, opening May 29, about an old crumudgeon who decides to fly to South America by releasing a million helium-filled balloons and lifting his house into the air. Along for the ride is a young wilderness explorer, who inadvertantly ends up on the old man’s porch when the house goes up. Here’s a clip:
Which leads me to my next question: what is your favorite Pixar movie? I’ve had a tough time picking just one, since they are all sooo good. Toy Story — which started the Pixar ball rolling (not counting their first animated short about a small lamp’s obsession with a ball), and its sequel Toy Story II — immediately come to mind as favorites. Then there’s The Incredibles and last year’s Wall-E. But if I had to choose just one, it would probably be Finding Nemo. With the combo of a heartwarming story about a clown fish’s search for his son and the hilarious vocal talent, mostly Ellen DeGeneres, it was just pure magic.
