How to Cast: The Jetsons

jetsons“Jane, get me off this crazy thing!” A live-action version of this classic animated show has been in the works for ages, but it looks like Robert Rodriguez might take the reins — at least that’s what he told MTV recently.

And what not? I loved The Jetsons as a kid (um, what DIDN’T I love as a kid?). Watching this wacky futuristic family each week was fun; George Jetson freaking out over everything from working for Mr. Spockets to working all the gadgets in his house; Jane Jetson, a calming effect for her husband while getting her hair and nails done; Judy Jetson, the typical teenager obsessing over boys; Elroy Jetson, the boy genius; and finally, Astro, the (barely) talking dog and Rosie, the robot maid. Remember the intro?

Cinematical’s Jessica Barnes has come up with some seriously good casting choices, such as Steve Carell as George, Reese Witherspoon as Jane, Hayden Panetierre as Judy and providing voices for their CGI characters — Hank Azaria as Astro and Fran Drescher as Rosie. The only one I don’t agree with Jessica on is Elroy. She picked Cameron Bright (from Running Scared). If you check his IMDB page, he’s a little too old to play Elroy. I’d maybe pick the kid from iCarly, Nathan Kress (and I know of him because I watch the show religiously with my 10-year-old daughter). But Rodriguez is good at getting the right kids, so he’ll most likely go with an unknown.
